Standby Skippers And Hosts
Two standby skippers and two standby hosts cover each week from the standby apartment in Croatia. Names and contact numbers are confirmed on a rolling basis.
IN AN EMERGENCY
IN AN EMERGENCY
If you have an emergency, your first port of call should be the COAST GUARD. Use channel 16 on your VHF to initiate the call and you will then be directed to another channel. You can also call 112 on any mobile phone, regardless of whether it has an operational service plan.
After the coast guard, notify the Route Manager as soon as possible for any major emergencies. For minor emergencies, contact your lead skipper.
Fill out an accident report ASAP: Accident Report Form

Embassies & Consulates
Embassies & Consulates
Embassies and consulates are the right point of contact for serious matters affecting a guest or a crew member’s home country. They are not a general help line. Reach out to the relevant embassy or consulate when:
- A passport is lost, stolen, or damaged and a replacement or emergency travel document is needed.
- A guest or crew member is seriously injured, hospitalised, or has died. Embassies can assist with notifying next of kin and coordinating support.
- A guest or crew member is arrested, detained, or otherwise involved in a criminal matter.
- A guest or crew member is the victim of a serious crime.
- There is a wider crisis (natural disaster, civil unrest, large-scale incident) requiring consular assistance.
- A guest or crew member needs welfare support and cannot reach family or friends.
Search online for the embassy or consulate of the relevant home country in Croatia. Confirm the latest contact details and opening hours before calling, as these change. Most embassies operate a 24-hour emergency line for citizens in distress.
PRE-DEPARTURE INFORMATION
Standard YW pre-departure steps (crew lists, online check-in, lead booker / skipper check-in, deposits) are on the Yacht Week Operations page. The notes below are Croatia-specific.
Guest Comms
In the Day 8 app you’ll be introduced to your crew before the week. If any crew members are missing from the introduction, email app@yachtweek.com.
Common issue: guests don’t complete their “online check-in” until the last minute. Once they’re checked in do they get app access.
The app is critical: it’s how the weekly schedule, last-minute changes, and push notifications about critical situations reach every guest. App usage and functionality is improving every season, and we want to keep all guests connected to each other through it.
Use the app as your number-one comms channel. This applies particularly to cabin and solo booking charters where guests don’t already know each other. Should they guests prefer you may of course use any other comms channel to stay in touch with them.
This is how the APP COMMS WORK:
- A group for your yacht will be created in the app, all guests + skipper/host.
- A group for your yacht will be created in the app, all guests + skipper/host.
- The intro messages will be followed by a message saying "please be patient with a reply as our team members might be busy sailing".
Do
- Encourage your crew to use the app.
- Send all messages in the app.
Do Not
- Start by asking your crew to join a private WhatsApp group.
- Switch to WhatsApp unless guests ask for it.
WhatsApp Groups
Please join the WhatsApp groups for the weeks you are assigned. Don’t join weeks where you aren’t assigned. Join 2 groups per week.
For each week we run 3 groups: one combined “All Skippers & Hosts” group, a Skippers-only group, and a Hosts-only group. As a skipper, join the All Skippers & Hosts group plus the Skippers group. As a host, join the All Skippers & Hosts group plus the Hosts group.
- Week 23 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 24 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 25 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 26 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 27 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 28 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 29 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 30 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 31 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 32 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 33 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
- Week 34 (Croatia): All Skippers & Hosts | Skippers | Hosts
You can create groups in the YW App. There will automatically be a Skipper and a Host group in the app for each week. YW is building app functionality to meet operational demands, but it’s not up to speed yet.
Early Arrival
If you plan to arrive in Croatia a few days before check-in, book accommodation in Trogir (or Split) and explore before heading to the marina.
INTERNET & E-SIM GUIDELINES
1. Staff Data Is Mandatory
As a skipper or host you must have continuous mobile data. All Yacht Week operational comms run exclusively through the Day 8 app and WhatsApp, and you need reliable access at the dock, on the water, and on land. Public Wi-Fi at marinas and venues is patchy. Do not rely on it for comms.
2. Onboard Wi-Fi Rentals
Guests can rent a portable Wi-Fi dongle directly from their charter company if they want a shared network for the yacht.
3. Advising Guests On Mobile Data
Personal mobile data is technically optional for guests, but they need it to fully experience the Day 8 app. Pay special attention to non-EU guests or those with limited data plans, and advise them as follows.
EU Phone Numbers
Croatia is in the EU. EU-issued SIMs operate under the “Roam Like At Home” rules, so a normal home data plan typically applies in Croatia at no extra charge. Fair-use limits exist for very large plans, so guests should confirm with their provider before travelling.
Non-EU Phone Numbers (US, UK, AUS, etc.)
Advise these guests to arrange data before they arrive. Roaming fees can be huge.
Travel eSIMs (Highly Recommended)
Apps like Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Nomad sell Croatia or Europe-wide data plans that activate instantly:
- 5 GB (~7 days): roughly €10 to €15.
- 10 GB (~14 days): roughly €18 to €25.
- Unlimited Europe: roughly €25 to €40.
Physical Local SIMs
Guests can buy a local SIM (A1, T-Com Hrvatski Telekom, Telemach, Tomato, or BonBon) for around €10. The eSIM route is faster and avoids tracking down a carrier store.
- Start by asking your crew to join a private WhatsApp group.
- Switch to WhatsApp unless guests ask for it.
US guests: confirm with the home carrier that the phone is unlocked before leaving home (usually means the phone is fully paid off). If the phone is locked, international eSIMs and local physical SIMs will not work.

TIPPING
Tipping is one of the most common friction points reported by Yacht Week guests. Different cultures have very different norms around it. Here’s where Yacht Week stands.
Don't Ask For Tips
- Do not send pre-arrival or onboard messages requesting an "industry-standard tip". Yacht Week is not a high-end private charter. It's an entry-level product for young people getting into yachting, and it shouldn't be priced or pitched like a luxury crew gratuity model.
- Some guests will tip generously because that's how their culture works. Others won't, because that's how theirs works. Both are fine. The decision about whether and how much to tip belongs to the guest.
Why This Matters
- Yacht Week is built to be accessible: for young people, tight budgets, and first-time charterers. Heavy tipping pressure is one of the barriers that keeps people out of yachting, and that's exactly the audience we exist to bring in.
- Yacht Week created a new niche: youth and group sailing. We're not the wider private yachting industry, and the same compensation expectations don't apply.
- A YW assignment is a summer job, not a primary income job. It's about having fun, making friends, and building a network.
The Reality
You win some, you lose some. The bigger yachts tend to tip more often, so the path to better gratuities is racking up multiple weeks and getting onto the larger yachts. Do the job well, treat your guests as guests, and tips will follow on the weeks they follow.
EVENT INFORMATION
Event Themes (Croatia)
Remaining day/night events: casual dress, respecting local culture and community.
Festival weeks (Rhythm & Waves on W26, Ultra on W29, Sunburn on W30) layer their own programming on top of the Original route.
Table Bookings
Table bookings are available for Fort George, Carpe Diem, and Club 585. Guests book via the link in the YW app. Table layouts are also uploaded to EventBite. Bottle service table bookings open at 6pm on Saturday, one week before guest check-in.
Fort George
Fort George offers a sunset drinks session on the rooftop with a DJ, followed by a 3-course dinner. Guests pre-order the dinner via the YW admin under Extras.
In 2026, the Fort George dinner sold out every night. Advise guests to pre-book well in advance, especially on the bigger weeks where Fort George cannot accommodate every guest who wants a seat.
Guests can also enjoy the FG Rooftop with sunset cocktails: €20 gets them wristband access plus 3 cocktails (for those who don’t pre-book the dinner).
Alcohol & Dining (Croatia)
- Shops: don't expect great quality in stores. Guests should stock up duty-free for anything premium.
- Bars/clubs: most offer bottle service, so don't overstock the yacht with drinks.
- Restaurants: we recommend partner restaurants. There are often perks (skippers/hosts eat free, free wine, familiarity with our operations).
ARRIVAL & MARINAS
The main YW check-in is at Baotic Marina, Trogir. We try to send staff to all other marinas as well. If staff can’t be onsite at a marina, we relay information through skippers, including wristbands, pre-ordered merchandise, cooler box delivery, and any guest queries that need the Event Team.
Croatia has a dedicated YW check-in team handling registration and handing everything out to arriving guests on Saturday. The wider Event Team is in a support function on Saturday daytime: present and working, but the check-in team owns the arrival flow.
For marinas that are further from town, share a taxi with crew members travelling in the same direction.
Baotic Marina, Trogir
- Main YW check-in marina. Check-in is on the yachts.
- Let guests know when their yacht is ready. Keep them away from the marina until then.
- Marina facilities: showers, toilets, cafés, restaurants, small grocery shops.
- From Split: taxi/Uber ≈ €50, or bus from outside Split's old town for €3.
Kastela Marina
- Information points are small. Look for blue YW Crew polos.
- Marina facilities: small grocery store, café, pizza place, showers, and toilets.
- From Split: taxi/Bolt/Uber ≈ €30 to €40.
- Recommended taxi: Mario, +385 95 842 9495.

ACI/SCT Marina, Trogir
- Check-in is on the yacht by skippers. Notify guests once the yacht is ready.

- From Split: taxi/Uber ≈ €50.
Marina Frapa, Rogoznica
- On selected weeks we offer yachts from Marina Frapa in Rogoznica.
- Check-in is on the yachts. Notify guests once their yacht is ready and keep them away from the marina until then.
- Marina facilities: showers, toilets, restaurants, supermarkets, ATM, fuel station onsite.

Location Overview & Arrival Strategy
Because our fleet departs from several different marinas, a guest’s ideal arrival plan depends on where their yacht is based. Advise them using the breakdown below.
Trogir Area Departures (Baotic, SCT Trogir, ACI Trogir)
Guests departing from these marinas should head straight from the airport to Baotic Marina. From there they have two options for the day:
- Explore Trogir Town: Trogir is a beautiful historic town packed with restaurants, bars, and sights, just a short water taxi from Baotic. Guests can drop their bags at the marina's paid luggage storage and spend the day exploring unencumbered.
- Hang Out At Baotic: Spend the day relaxing right at Baotic Marina. If their yacht is at SCT or ACI, there's a convenient boat shuttle from Baotic to take them to their departure marina when their yacht is ready.
Other Marina Departures (Kastela & Frapa / Rogoznica)
- The Standard Route (Recommended): Head straight from the airport to the specific departure marina. Spend the day relaxing on-site and getting ready for provisioning.
- The Early Arrival Alternative: If guests land very early and want more entertainment options, they can head to Baotic Marina for the first part of the day to have lunch and hang out, then arrange a ground transfer to Marina Kastela or Marina Frapa later in the afternoon when it's closer to check-in time.
- Saturday Sailing To Trogir (The Transfer Hack): Depending on weather and when the yacht becomes available, Kastela and Frapa yachts may sail directly over to Trogir to spend the first night there. This eliminates the need for guests to take ground transfers back and forth between the marinas and Trogir for the evening.
Skipper action required: If you plan to sail the yacht over to Trogir for the first night, check with the Route Manager beforehand to confirm if and where dock or marina spots are available.

FRIDAY: RETURN TO MARINA
Location Overview
Leave the Vis Riva when it suits you and your guests. If you are at the raft in Stonac Bay, sync your departure with your Lead Skipper or Route Manager.
All yachts are encouraged to make a swim stop for at least 1 hour. Many bays around the east side of Šolta and on the west side of Brač next to Milna. Be back at your marina by approx 15:00 to 16:00. Guests have chartered the yacht and are free to use it until 09:00 on Saturday. Your personal travel plans should never interfere.
If you are out of either ACI Split or Marina Kastela, we recommend the fuel dock in Milna on the west side of Brač (1 yacht alongside) or Rogač on the north side of Šolta. The fuel dock in Baotic, while convenient, is approximately 50% more expensive than other fuel docks.
Yacht Handover Checklist
Yacht Handover Checklist
- All garbage removed, especially from the heads. Recyclable waste separated where possible.
- All opened and half-used food thrown away.
- Unopened food and drinks: gather them up and hand them over to the Standby Apartment. Minimises waste, helps standby crew save on food costs during free weeks, and keeps everyone fed. Anything not taken on can be left as gratuity for the cleaners.
- Linen stripped from cabins and left in a pile in the saloon.
- Dishes done and put away.
- Ovens, stoves, and fridges clean.
- All damages and missing inventory reported.
- Diesel, outboard fuel, and gas refilled.
- All trash sorted. You won't be allowed to drop it otherwise.
- Yacht Week flags taken down and either returned to the YW office or kept for the following week's assignment.
- Route Manager / Lead Skipper flags kept or passed to the next RM/LS.
- Returner flags may be returned to guests.
- Wash the 'T/T Yacht Week cooler box' to keep it fresh for the next crew.
Failing to complete these tasks may result in cleaning charges. Skippers are liable for a final inspection and to assist guests with any problems after final disembarkation.
SATURDAY: CHECK-OUT
All guests must have disembarked the yacht by 09:00. Encourage guests to tidy and pack on Friday night to make Saturday morning less stressful.
RESPECT
YW etiquette and ethos are detailed on the Yacht Week Operations page. The notes below cover dress, music, and Croatia-specific guidance.
Dress & Music
- Uniform is mandatory when leaving or entering a marina or port.
- Always look good. Represent the brand and look professional.
- Swimwear is fine onboard, on marina docks, and at natural bays and beaches.
- No swimwear in towns and ports. We get complaints from city officials when guests wear too little clothing. We're operating in traditional island communities where their rules apply.
- Music on the yachts: keep volume reasonable, off in marinas and ports after 20:00.
Croatia-Specific Notes
- No swimwear or sheer/transparent clothing in Hvar town or at Carpe Diem and Fort George.
- Music on the yachts: keep volume reasonable, off in marinas after 20:00 (Palmižana is enforced strictly).
- Dinghy etiquette: lift dinghies onboard at night where possible; hide kill cords.
