Nicolas “Uko” 🇦🇷 Skipper Academy 2024

From windsurfing in Argentina to building a career in sailing

I’ve been passionate about the water since I was a kid — I started windsurfing at 12 and by 14 I was already dinghy sailing at school. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of making a career in sailing. At 23 I decided to really start pursuing it, and Yacht Week turned out to be the perfect way to take those first big steps.

What drew me to YW was not only the chance to sail in amazing places, but also the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world who share the same passion. The network you build here is priceless — it opens doors and creates friendships that go far beyond the season. Very quickly, the people you work with start to feel like a family, a family far away from home, and that’s one of the things I value the most.

On top of that, Yacht Week helped me perfect so many skills, both technical and personal. You quickly realize being a good skipper isn’t just about sailing — it’s about leadership, problem-solving, and adapting to whatever the week throws at you. The support and knowledge you gain from the team is incredible, and it pushes you to grow every day.

For me, YW wasn’t just a job, it was the bridge between dreaming about a career in sailing and actually building one.
